On 19th February 2026, The Siaya National Polytechnic made another historic step in embracing digital transformation by conducting its Trainee Council (SINAPTO) elections entirely online. The exercise attracted enthusiastic participation from trainees across all departments, marking a new era of convenience, transparency, and peaceful democratic engagement within the institution.
This year’s elections were unique—not because of heated campaigns or large crowds, but because of how smooth, organized, and peaceful the process was.
Voters queues at the designated Voting Centre casting their ballots with just a few clicks. The digital platform ensured accuracy in vote counting and eliminated the usual logistical challenges associated with physical voting.
Throughout the day, minimal delays were reported and they were swiftly handled by the capable TSNP Independent Elections Commission (IEC). Trainees eventually celebrated the simplicity and efficiency of an online voting system that respected their time and guaranteed the safety of all participants.
The success of the 2026 SINAPTO elections highlighted several advantages of adopting digital voting systems:
Automation reduced human error and ensured that results were tabulated instantly once voting closed.
Digital systems allow for secure authentication and encrypted data handling, reducing chances of manipulation or ballot interference.
The institution saved on printing, transportation, and staffing costs typically associated with manual elections.
With no ballot papers or printed materials, the process supported sustainability initiatives.
At the end of the exercise, the Returning Officer officially announced the winners—marking the conclusion of a successful election and the beginning of a new leadership chapter.
The elected student leaders now move into the preparation phase for their swearing‑in ceremony, where they will formally take the oath of office and assume their responsibilities.
This transition symbolizes not only the trust placed in these young leaders but also the polytechnic’s commitment to nurturing accountable, proactive, and digitally empowered leadership.
