Peer Educators Day 2025

Building Resilient Communities

Peer Educators Day 2025

Our grounds recently came alive with inspiration and purpose as students, leaders, and changemakers gathered to mark Peer Counsellors Day 2025. Under the guiding theme “Building Resilient Communities Through Peer Education,” the event was not just a celebration—it was a call to action.

Graced by His Excellency, The Governor of Siaya County, and joined by a host of esteemed dignitaries, the day spotlighted the unwavering role of peer counsellors in shaping healthier, stronger communities from the ground up.

The program unfolded with peer-led health talks that courageously tackled today’s most pressing issues. Mental health took center stage as speakers shared compelling stories and coping strategies, emphasizing the importance of awareness, empathy, and accessible support systems in the face of rising youth stress and anxiety.

Equally impactful were discussions on HIV/AIDS, where counsellors demystified stigma, promoted testing, and reignited the conversation around prevention and compassion. The dialogue extended to Gender-Based Violence (GBV)—a deeply resonant topic—encouraging students to speak out, support survivors, and champion safer spaces for all.

Sessions on Reproductive Health empowered attendees with knowledge about family planning, bodily autonomy, and the importance of informed decisions. Meanwhile, emerging challenges like Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) were addressed with a forward-looking lens, highlighting lifestyle awareness and early screening as pillars of prevention.

Beyond the talks, the event embraced sustainability through a tree-planting initiative, symbolizing growth not just in nature, but in the hearts and minds of participants. Each tree planted was a living testament to the enduring impact of education, resilience, and community.

From energizing performances to raw, heartfelt testimonials, Peer Counsellors Day at The Siaya National Polytechnic was a showcase of courage, connection, and commitment. It reminded us that peer counsellors aren’t just student volunteers—they’re everyday heroes guiding their peers through life’s complexities with empathy and strength.

In a world facing countless challenges, this event lit a beacon of hope. And with the energy and leadership witnessed on that day, the future of Siaya County feels both resilient and bright.
