ODeL Training at TSNP

We successfully hosted a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Digital Content Development for Open, Distance, and eLearning (ODeL), held between 3rd and 8th August 2026. The week-long training was facilitated by ODeL Experts from The Kenya School of TVET (KSTVET), and brought together TSNP trainers keen on building the skills needed to develop, update, and monitor digital learning content for trainees.

The training forms part of TSNP’s broader strategy to roll out online courses, marking a significant step toward expanding access to flexible, technology-enabled learning for our trainees.

Purpose of the Training

The core objective was to equip TSNP trainers with the confidence and technical competence to independently create, refine, and manage digital learning content — a critical foundation as the institution moves toward launching its own online course offerings.

Key Areas Covered

Over the course of the training, the KSTVET team guided participants through several important areas central to effective ODeL content development, including:

• Instructional Design for Online Learning — structuring content in ways that support effective self-paced and remote learning
• Digital Content Creation Tools and Techniques — practical skills for developing multimedia and interactive learning materials
• Learning Management System (LMS) Navigation — hands-on orientation to uploading, organizing, and managing content within an online learning platform
• Content Review, Updating, and Quality Assurance — best practices for keeping learning materials accurate, relevant, and up to date
• Monitoring and Evaluating Learner Engagement — approaches to tracking trainee progress and content effectiveness in an online environment
• Accessibility and Inclusivity in Digital Content — ensuring learning materials are usable by all trainees, including those with disabilities

Looking Ahead

With trainers now equipped with these foundational ODeL skills, TSNP is well-positioned to begin developing and piloting online courses — a move that will broaden access to quality technical training beyond the traditional classroom setting.
