The annual TVET Fair 2026, hosted by the Kisii National Polytechnic, brought together Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions from across Kenya in a grand showcase of innovation, talent, and academic brilliance. Among the many institutions that graced the event, TSNP emerged as one of the standout performers — bagging multiple honours across Exhibitions, Skills Competition, and Paper Presentation categories and reaffirming its position as a centre of excellence in the TVET sector.
The Polytechnic’s exhibition tent buzzed with energy as visitors and judges alike paused to engage with a remarkable lineup of student and staff innovations.
Taking 1st Position were two projects that set the bar high from the outset. The Composite Briquette Maker (Applied Sciences Category) offered a compelling, eco-friendly solution to the energy crisis, converting waste materials into affordable, clean-burning fuel — a practical answer to one of the community’s most pressing challenges.
Equally celebrated was the Smart Recruitment Platform (Business Category), a digital system designed to automate and streamline the hiring process, demonstrating the Polytechnic’s capacity to produce business-driven, technology-savvy thinkers.
Securing 2nd Position was the CITRAVIT Fortified Adult Porridge Flour (Food and Beverage Category), developed under the guidance of Oscar Moses. This nutritional innovation addresses micronutrient deficiencies in adult diets through a fortified, locally produced porridge flour — a project that beautifully bridges food science, public health, and entrepreneurship.
The Polytechnic also swept 3rd Position in three separate categories. The Solar-Powered Lawn Mower (Electrical Category) impressed judges with its integration of renewable energy into everyday machinery, championing sustainability in engineering. The Multi-Purpose Work Bench (Mechanical Category) stood out for its ergonomic versatility, designed to serve multiple functions in workshop and technical training environments. Completing the trio was the Smart E-Filing System with Blockchain (ICT Category) — a forward-thinking records management solution that harnesses blockchain technology to guarantee document security, integrity, and real-time traceability.
The institution’s trainees also demonstrated their hands-on excellence in the Skills Competition, where the Fashion Design team proudly clinched 2nd Position. Their creative precision and mastery of garment construction earned them well-deserved recognition and reflected the high calibre of training offered within the Polytechnic’s Fashion and Garment Making programme.
In what was arguably the most intellectually demanding segment of the fair, Siaya National Polytechnic’s representatives claimed 1st Position in the Pure Sciences Category of the Paper Presentation competition. This achievement speaks to the strength of the institution’s academic foundation and its growing research culture — producing graduates who can hold their own in rigorous scientific discourse.
The TVET Fair 2026 results are a proud reflection of Siaya National Polytechnic’s dedicated faculty, passionate trainees, and a learning environment that consistently turns ideas into impactful innovations. From the exhibition floor to the podium, the Polytechnic’s delegation demonstrated that technical education, when delivered with purpose, produces graduates of national and global relevance.
As we celebrate these achievements, we remain inspired to reach even greater heights. Congratulations to every trainee, supervisor, and department that contributed to this outstanding performance. TSNP continues to rise — and the best is yet to come.
